The joint application period for universities of applied sciences is held twice a year in the spring and autumn.
A separate application period is held for degree programmes aimed at adults who speak a foreign language and for the Police University College. Most fields of study require an entrance examination, whose results are sent to each participant person.
The requirement for admission to a university of applied sciences is primarily:
- an upper secondary syllabus; matriculation examination; an International Baccalaureate or Reifeprüfung;
- vocational upper secondary qualification; vocational college diploma or higher vocational diploma; vocational upper secondary
- qualification completed in combined adult education programmes; or a foreign vocational qualification that is equivalent to the above-mentioned degrees
